Emirati authorities arrested Salim Hazaqat on accusations of supporting Qatar, after discovering that he considered visiting the country in 2009.
The official spokesperson for the Emirati police force said that security guards found a message sent by Salim to a friend at exactly 4:36pm on the 23rd of February in 2009. In the message, Salim revealed his desire to visit his aunt in Doha, without showing any signs of repulsion at the idea of traveling to the country or at his aunt’s decision to live there.
The spokesperson pointed to the preliminary investigations of Salim, which indicate a total absence of hostility towards Qatar. “Although he has been cursing the country and its establishment throughout the investigations, we suspect that he has adopted a strategy of deceit and are not falling for it. Not even gestures we would normally consider reassuring, such as spitting at the mention of the country’s name, has convinced us that his hatred is sincere.”
Authorities are now scrutinizing the social media accounts and Google search history of the criminal, in order to gain clarity about his motives. “If he had gone to Qatar, he would have supported its economy through using its airplanes,” stated the spokesperson, “and if he used Emirati planes, he would be responsible for contaminating our fleet and raising the demand for more of our planes to enter Qatari airspace.”
He further stated that the consequences will be severe for Salim once he gets convicted. “We will sentence the traitor to solitary confinement with hard physical labor for five years and a fine of three million dirhams. If it turns out he is unable to pay, he will be incarcerated for an additional five years, and we’ll have no choice but to imprison his family at the end of his sentence because of their involvement in his upbringing.”
