The Israeli government decided to release Ahad Tamimi after noting that living in her hometown promises harassment by soldiers and settlers more grueling than any punishment they could inflict on her in a military prison.
A spokesperson for the Israeli military, Akhfot Shlakho, said that prison has more services than a Palestinian deserves, “Ahad was roaming happily around in her cell without any checkpoints or searches restricting her movements. She was eating, drinking and getting dressed on the taxpayers’ money and has even been able to sleep soundly at night without fearing assaults or arson from settlers or raids from soldiers. Barring interrogations, her guards even left her alone.”
He added, “Now that we have released her, it is a great opportunity for our soldiers to beat Ahad in the streets, or kill her in self-defense when they raid her house. She could also serendipitously fall in the hands of settlers on the way to school.”
“If releasing her back to her village doesn’t teach her a lesson” Akhfot noted, “we might just transfer her to Gaza, where the only Israeli thing she can slap is rockets.”
